Magic to Repel an Enemy

Without sharing too many gory, and somewhat boring, details I find myself in the position of wanting to rid myself, my home and my family of a very negative, poisonous leech-like person. I haven't talked about spell work much in the last year and there is a good reason for this: I've been so emotionally victimized that I've felt broken and helpless and incapable of working magic. I've prayed a lot but I have barely touched my altar in over a year. I haven't lit a ritual candle and I haven't picked up a gemstone or crystal except to clean it. I haven't done a lot of things because I just honestly feared/felt there was nothing I could do in the face of such overwhelming greed, self-centeredness, selfishness, discourteousness, laziness and general disregard for anyone unwilling to shell out more money for drugs. I kept waiting/hoping things would get better and instead they've only gotten worse.

Well, I've made a decision: no more of this shit. This person has got to go. Or, at the very least, this version of this person has got to go. I've spent the last year waiting for the situation to improve on its own and it hasn't happened. A year is long enough; its time for some magical intervention. So I've decided to employ what some people would call "negative" or "black" magic in order to make this person change or make this person leave. To me, a student of hoodoo, this is not an evil or taboo idea. It is what it is and it is necessary to preserve what's left of my family. I'm no longer of the mind that it is best to turn the other cheek. Anyone who has ever been grossly taken advantage of by a so-called loved one knows that turning the other cheek to preserve the peace can and will eventually turn into becoming a career or serial victim. Well, I'm sick and fucking tired of being the victim.

Now, before anyone starts commenting about the free will of others I have the following little rant to share. I don't think I ever was of the opinion that one should never seek to influence the will of another person through magic. Why shouldn't we use magic to influence the will of others? We try to influence the will of others through mundane means every day. Don't believe me? You ever try to talk your spouse into attending a gathering for someone they disliked? You ever try to convince your boss to give you a raise or a schedule change? You ever try to get your kids to eat their veggies? Ever try to get someone you love to stop doing drugs? You see where I'm going with this? We influence the will of others all the time through mundane means. Some people do it constantly, all day long as part of their jobs. By typing these words I'm trying to influence your will, dear reader, by attempting to bring you over to my way of thinking right now. We use words, reason, logic, body language, gestures, tone of voice, examples etc. to influence the will of others all the time. Why shouldn't we include magic in our arsenal of persuasive techniques? To exclude magic from our methods of persuasion is downright silly in my eyes. Also, don't bother telling me that this kind of magic goes against the Wiccan Rede because I honestly don't care. I'm not Wiccan. I'm not even Wiccan-esque. Using the Wiccan Rede to convert or condemn me is just as pointless as overzealous Christians throwing Bible quotes at any type of pagan. It does not compute; it is irrelevant. And, lest you wonder, I'm not planning magic to bring any harm to this person. I merely want this person to either change their ways or go away and leave my family in the peace we had before this person came along.

Now, normally when I work magic I create the ritual and spell out of thin air. Or, rather, I consult my pineal gland and use what I have on hand. I've always detested the idea of copying, word for word and ingredient for ingredient, the exact workings of another. I make up a rhyming chant, I make use of readily available gemstones, crystals or rocks, I use some herbs that I grew in my own garden, I light my altar candles and tea candles, I put on my ritual music, I invoke the elements, ask for the blessings of my patron deities and I go to town. But this time is a little different. Firstly, I'm out of practice; my confidence isn't at its highest. Secondly, I'm wounded in spirit. Thirdly, I've never wanted to do a working of this sort before. Sure, I've worked a little magic revolving around a specific person before but never something that was so important for the well being of my family. Never have I deliberately set out to get rid of someone. So, this will require some extra thought. This will require some research. And for that, I'll head over to Lucky Mojo for some ideas. Stay tuned.

Do it, my friend. I'm totally with you on this type of thing. Sometimes I think the "Rede" is something modern witches use for P.R. purposes. ("See? We're not bad. We have this rule.")dThere's absolutely nothing wrong with protecting our own, and honestly, I think it's part of our duty.

We all make choices, and like any good gardener will tell you, weeding is an important part of keeping a healthy garden.

I love that you trust your pineal gland - yes!

I once had an ex who stalked me, and damn if I didn't scoop up some dirt from a graveyard and do some "get the hell out of my life you freakshow" magick with it.

Good luck with this, Livia, and it sounds like you're one hell of a good witch.

Can I just say that I think you're spot on in your assessment of using so-called 'black magic'?

I can only begin to imagine what a pain, in all senses of the word, this person is. I was once such a person.
I'm not saying let them fall to the ground, and see if a really hard landing will do some good...but it's what happened to me, and it was necessary, dammit.
For my family as well as, in the end, for myself.
Many blessings on your quest.I find invoking Kali helps.
Love,
Terri in Joburg

Oh Hon, I know that this is not the easiest of decisions for you to make. But knowing what I do of your personal situation I completely understand why you are doing it. ( sorry I have been once again out of contact, sickness, death in my family, and just general hermitting have all played a part)

I like this one, have used it, it works well...as usual, you can adapt and modify as needed...

I applaud you for taking such an action to protect yourself and your family.

BREAKING TIES/BANISHING A PERSON FROM YOUR LIFE This is a spell for love gone wrong, for ending a personal, family or business relationship that you no longer wish to be in. It is a fire spell. To work it, gather herbs of protection and an image of the person (photograph, poppet, etc.) -Something written in their own hand, a lock of hair, a piece of clothing or a personal object will also do. Put everything into a fireproof container - iron cauldron, marble mortar, whatever - and set fire to it as you perform the spell. It should make a very satisfactory blaze that reduces to ashes. The ashes can be buried or washed down a drain. Flush them down a toilet if you are very angry. Dispose of all the objects that connect you to the person: gifts, letters, photographs, etc. It is especially important to get rid of jewelry. Move house if you have to. Be careful with this spell. It's permanent, so don't use it unless you really mean forever. It's also powerful. "by basilisk and bloodstone by the garlic in the fields by the poppies and what they yield invisibly I make my shield to detect thee and deflect thee By dragon's blood and salamanders by horses when their hooves strike sparks by the dragon breathing flames from the Book of Life I erase thy names I cut the cords and unlock the chains I sever all the ties by which we were bound and with impenetrable walls myself I surround against thy power and its source against thy evil and its source Vesta, Pele, Lilith Kali Kali Kali I banish thee forever from me and any harm from thee to me doubles back and tables turned thou shalt by thyself be burned Lilith, Vesta, Pele Kali Ma Kali Ma by the power of three times three I banish thee, I banish thee, I banish thee I am set free.

Best of luck in your plans. I agree that mindful spells to affect another are acceptable. You sound liek you are asking this person to leave or change, not trying to affect their own lives in a negative manner. I don't have much experience with that type of spellwork myself beyond theory-crafting, but wish you luck and success.

First, I applaud you. I don't consider this type of work "black magic". What most consider "black magic" is really about the ill intent of the magician doing the work. As long as your intent is good, that is, for the good of you and your family, it isn't "black". Magic, in general, is neutral.

Secondly, may I make a suggestion that may assist? If you do your working during the waning moon, this may help with banishing said individual from your realm. Do your work a day or two after the full moon, keeping in mind the greater good of you and yours, with additional correspondences related to banishment and protection, and all should be fine.

After further checking, the moon will be waning in Libra on the 12th and 13th. Libra is related to settling matters having to do with partnerships; also long-standing disagreements. This might be a good time to do your work.

All my best, Rose

You go, girl. Just remember that sometimes the best spell is worked over a restraining order.

Livia,
I'm with you on several key points here.
First, a banishing/binding-- of negative energies, harmful thoughts or effects, or, yes, people-- cant' be construed as black magic or evil; not in my book, or ANYONE's, when said rite is obviously needed protection.
Good points too about daily influencing; 's one of the reasons i chose not to be a salesperson-- just some moral issue i have; no need for details.
And the most powerful works I've done have all had some similance of organized guideline but been allowed MUCHO improvisation, especially verbiage-wise. Less programmed or scripted has resulted in more from the heart & soul-- the cores of magic for moi.
Best of wishes in your rites, woman.

Mind if I add a little visualization energy? I'd like to wait 'till the moon is on wane(~1 wk) but could be done sooner--- sounds like the faster this clown goes, the better...

Will it, woman!

more soon...

WOW! I never expected so many responses. I expected a few positive and couple negatives. Just to be clear, I think my mention of the phrase "black magic" is just a hangover from my early magical years when I was constantly having to wade through the white lighters. And that begs the question: are there any white lighters anymore? Anyway...

Greg, yeah, I think you're probably at least partially right. The Rede is a good thing for articles and whatnot. But, in my experience, not very useful for daily magical practice. But then again, I'm not Wiccan so I guess I can't really speak for those folks.

I like your gardening metaphor; some people do need to be weeded out of my life sometimes. And you mentioned graveyard dirt! I'm considering using that very thing and will perhaps blog about it as I've never taken that step before. Thanks for your encouragement!

Aquila ka Hecate, you give me hope that this addiction might be beatable. I confess that has been of lesser concern to me than what my family as a whole has suffered. But perhaps I should focus a little more on the disease of addictions itself. I don't know if I have the nerve to invoke Kali; she's one scary goddess! But thanks so much for your insights.

Lilith, I totally understand your situation. I remember working and going to school full time so I know you're stretched to your limits. I miss you and the Dragon but I understand. Sorry to hear of your loss, hope you're both doing well.

Celestial, I like the idea of gathering personal items, etc. and burning them. Next to burying things in the Earth Mother burning is my next favorite magical working. Thanks for your input.

Livia Indica said...

Maebius, thanks for the good wishes!

Rose, I agree, magic is like electricity; it is neutral. It is the intent of the practitioner plugged into and channeling the energy that is key.

Thanks so much for cluing me into the moon signs. I had already figured on the waning moon but I'm not so good with when certain heavenly bodies are in which constellation or sign. I will definitely schedule this working for one of those days. Thanks again!

Hecate, yes you're right. But I honestly don't want to get the law involved. I mean, this person is already on probation and I don't necessarily want them in jail. Jail apparently didn't make an impression before so I don't really seed the good in it. I also just don't like law enforcement in my business. But thanks for your encouragement.

Cygnus, yeah, when I first started down this path I tried to make things really formal and stick to a script and all I wound up doing was tripping over my words and myself and not focusing my intent and energy on anything helpful. I learned pretty quick that going with my gut and intuition was far more effective.

Yeah, you could definitely add a little energy to my working. I'll be doing this on the 12th or 13th, haven't decided yet. Thanks!

I just want to say a big "thank you" to all of you for your ideas, tips and, above all, your encouragement. I truly, truly, truly appreciate it.

"Now, before anyone starts commenting about the free will of others I have the following little rant to share. I don't think I ever was of the opinion that one should never seek to influence the will of another person through magic."

For the record I'm not a witch (not yet anyway) and I haven't practised much magic, so I'm no expert or anything.

Yet, even if using magic against a person or without permission is ethically wrong in some cases, I say there's definitely room for provision.

Relationships with others are far to complicated to be fixed by canonical set of ethical principles. Even Buddhists recognize this. Sometimes you need to break spiritual precepts for the greater good. In this case yourself and your family.

I understand what it's like to have a destructive person in my life. There have been many. As recent as a couple of months ago. I took action and removed this person (that was negative, manipulative, full of bitterness, etc.) from my life, for the sake of my mental health, which was spiralling downhill pretty rapidly and I was unable to practice my spirituality.

End the suffering and do what you need to do. That's what I reckon.

Mahud, the rule about not using magic to influence the free will of another is a Wiccan idea that has little do with me (and plenty of others I've come to learn!). If I remember correctly this idea more or less originated with Crowley and the magic of Thelema. At any rate, it has nothing to do with me and my magic.

"Room for provision"...I like that phrase. I think you're right. In magic, religion and in life there are few hard and fast rules.

Thanks for you encouragement.

Sympathy and what you are doing is for me a way of refusing to be ensnared in the addiction that has turned the person you once cared for into a lying selfish parasite.

My younger brother is an alcoholic and I needed to simply distance from him once I realised I could not help or rescue somebody who did not choose to help himself and did not really want help.

As I am in recovery myself I think you are distancing in a very powerful and creative way.

If he looks for help or cleans up one day, there may be other choices open to you. But until then, look after yourself and your space.

Love

Mary

Hi Mary, I think you're right, there's only so much I can do and then I have to walk away. Thanks for your insightful comments.

Cygnus MacLlyr said...

Livia... WOW! so many comments! must mean a core issue, and i don't doubt it.

The 13th just meshes well with a banishing, don't you think?

Good day, my friend...

Just to clarify, it's the 12th or 13th of February. The moon won't be waning in Libra until the 16th of this month.

Livia Indica said...

Rose, oh! That changes things! Thanks for the clarification.

Cygnus, I'm gonna change the date actually given this new info from Rose. Stay tuned.

Cygnus MacLlyr said...

With ya, Liv. Keep me posted.

Though... Look at Her.. and today's date only the 6th...

And my calendar shows full on the 11th...

give Her 3 days full and waning seems would commence early as the 14h...
But Rose obviously knows her astronomy.. I'm gonna do some digging (uh, no pun on the nexy post intended...)

More soon.

But I'm still with you. Let me know when you'll be Working.

C.

Livia Indica said...

Yeah, me too. I want to do this before January is done and while the moon is waning. Those are the deal breakers.

Seems like a difficult person and situation. You need to do what you feel is right and best. I don't know that the trappings are all that important, just the intention. Be sure you're honest about what you really want.

Livia Indica said...

Riverwolf, you are so right to say that. I'm still not 100% decided what my goal should be. Do I want to try and make this person change by magical means (since mundane means haven't worked)? Or should I just get rid of this person? I'm still thinking about that.

Cygnus MacLlyr said...

Liv,
isn't "just get[ting] rid of this person" mundane magic?
Riverwolf has a valid point- intent. But it's time for ritual-backed intent, Woman!

Still with you, down any path...

Livia Indica said...

I guess I wasn't clear. I should have said "Or should I just get rid of this person by magical means?" Left that part off I guess. My point was I'm still not sure about what my magical goal should be. To magically change this person or to magically make this person go away (which would, in effect, be giving up on changing this person).
